A two thousand year old story, with a modern twist, set in the newest town. The cast were in a mixture of modern and traditional costumes. The audience followed the narrator as the story unfolded around the town centre. This was street theatre in South Woodham Ferrers.
What is this old story? A story 2000 years old telling the story of Holy Week and Easter. This is the ‘real’ story of Easter. The churches in South Woodham Ferrers came together in 2009 to organise a passion with a difference on Good Friday morning – ‘One Life One Passion’.
‘One Life One Passion’ is street theatre in the tradition of the Medieval York Mystery Plays. Similar events have been held in Leicester and Hornchurch with great success and we’ve been fortunate to learn from their experiences and to be able to adapt a script from the Hornchurch Passion Play. Following the success of One Life One Passion in 2009, we are now preparing to perform it again at Easter 2014.
Peter Blackman, Director says: “We are using the natural features of our Town today to mirror what happened around 2000 years ago in Jerusalem, which was relatively about the same size and type of place for its day. Our local people are like theirs were. The crowd were out on the streets then, as they will be on this coming Good Friday. They did notice what was going on.”
Julie Hardy, Producer says: “Everyone was welcome to come and watch the story unfold around them. The narrator and cast weaved their way around the Town centre taking the audience with them on a journey of discovery and hope.”
