Jesus: Biker? Hell’s Angel?!

In 2009 ‘One Life, One Passion’ started with Jesus entering Jerusalem on … a Harley Davidson. What will he arrive on in 2014?

The Blind Man Bartimeus appears in the 2014 production, played by Bp John Wraw, Bishop of Bradwell, accompanied by trainee Guide Dog Roma.

Kenton Church is the new Jesus. How will he deliver arguably the most challenging dramatic role that exists? He will be in Agony on the steps of a branch of a bank as his Garden of Gethsemane – ironic or what?

Excitement is growing as the only Passion Play in Essex and East Anglia approaches in less than two weeks’ time.

Director, Peter Blackman said: “Rehearsals of the new longer Play have been going well. Our cast of over fifty includes a lot of experienced actors as well as some fresh talent. They will show how relevant the story of the Passion of Christ is today using all the available features of our exciting Town centre. The Bandstand is the natural venue for The Last Supper and the Trial. The purpose made Cross provides a most realistic Crucifixion.”

Producer, Paul Hardy said: “Preparations are on track and going smoothly. Our vision is to bring the true story of Easter alive. Easter is not really about chocolate eggs and bunnies; they are things we use to celebrate the Greatest Story Ever Told. And we are going to tell it well.”

The South Woodham Ferrers Passion Play, “One Life One Passion”, follows a centuries old tradition of telling the Easter story using street theatre, recreating events that happened in Jerusalem 2000 years ago on the streets of South Woodham Ferrers.

The performances will take place on Good Friday 18tApril and on Saturday 19 April starting at 11am in Trinity Square, South Woodham Ferrers, Essex CM3 5JX.  Everyone is very welcome to attend. The performance on Saturday 19 April will be especially accessible, including signing for deaf people. If you would like to take part or attend there’s more information on our website .

This Sunday BBC Essex Radio will be broadcasting Andrew Merchant’s interview with Bartimeus – Bp John

Patricia MacLachlan RIP

It is with great sadness that we have to let you know of the unexpected death of Patricia MacLachlan RIP before Easter. Patricia played the part of Caiaphas in the 2014 production of ‘One Life’ One Passion’ (South Woodham Ferrers’ Passion Play) with great zest and aplomb. Patricia RIP and her family (mother and sister particularly) are in our thoughts and prayers

Patricia played the part of Caiaphas in the 2014 production of ‘One Life, One Passion’ (South Woodham Ferrers’ Passion Play) with great authority, zest and aplomb. Patricia was an enthusiastic and popular member of the cast. We had great times, including many laughs, during all the rehearsals and the two performances went smoothly. They made a great impact reaching a total audience of around 1200 people. It was good to get together again afterwards to celebrate a great team effort and Patricia was a tremendous contributor to the Play and supporter of her fellow cast members and the crew. We hope to continue the five-yearly productions and Patricia will be missed

Patricia’s funeral has taken place. A fascinating tribute was paid to her by a close friend. Patricia was a very talented lady including: an excellent school pupil; Oxford graduate in PPE (politics, philosophy & economics), a staunch advocate and worker for social justice in the UK and abroad, a talented teacher, an educational adviser in the UK and abroad, an OFSTED inspector, an amateur drama actor and a pilot. Her involvement in OLOP 2014 will never be forgotten .

Whilst everyone was sad at the suddenness of Patricia’s passing this was also a celebration of a great life of service and achievement.

Patricia will be buried Southport which is near where she was born and brought up in Liverpool
