Assistant Director: Geraldine Blackman

After failing his National Youth Theatre audition many decades ago, Peter Blackman went on to co-write two plays and become a director of one-act plays, some of which won festival prizes. More recently, Peter was Director of the Churches’ Media Council and in that capacity was in the thick of the controversy about ‘Jerry Springer – The Opera’. Subsequently he was a Production Adviser to the BBC’s ‘Manchester Passion’.

In their attic in ‘Blackman Towers’, Peter and his wife Geraldine, have updated the adapted the script of ‘One Life… One Passion’, first used in 2009, for use in South Woodham Ferrers in 2014. Their previous Passion play was performed in South Woodham Ferrers’ Holy Trinity Church and other places, and part of it was used as a meditation on BBC radio.

Geraldine has since written ‘Bethlehem Farm’, a Christmas play for primary schoolchildren, which has been performed in schools throughout the country.
